"Thank you for your interest in our new HAGIS study. Without your participation, our research would not be possible. We will use your insights to better understand what it means to be an older person living in Scotland, so that policy in Scotland meets your needs and other people in Scotland".

                                 Dr Elaine Douglas

 Principal Investigator

COVID-19 and You: Impact and Recovery Study

HAGIS follows individuals and households through time to find out more about people’s health, economic and social circumstances and, at this time, to learn about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on your life. The new HAGIS "COVID-19 and You: Impact and Recovery Study" explores how the pandemic has impacted the way people lived their lives during the pandemic restrictions and how they feel now that restrictions are easing. The survey measures COVID-19 related concerns relating to restrictions, financial worries, concerns for the future and vaccine attitudes. The survey then explores decision making relating to visiting family and friends, attending health appointments, returning to the workplace, and savings and spending patterns.

Why am I important?

Your participation is key to the success of this study. Without your help we can’t answer the important questions that will help improve our understanding of the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on older people. With your help we can inform policy debate and service development for a successful recovery from the pandemic. Each question answered will make a significant contribution to ageing research in Scotland.  Together, all those who take part, will change the future of our older population for the better.

How will my information be kept confidential?

All of your answers to the survey will be treated in confidence. Your data will be treated in line with all the relevant legislation. Only approved researchers will have access to the data. Your data will be anonymised and any analysis that is carried out will be done using this anonymised dataset.

Who has approved the study?

The General University Ethics Panel (GUEP) of the University of Stirling have reviewed and approved this study and the use of this survey to collect the data we need.

Who is funding the study?

This study is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), as part of UK Research and Innovation’s (UKRI) rapid response to COVID-19. UKRI is one of the leading funders of Public Health research in the UK and selected to support this study as part of their aim to further understand the impact of COVID-19 on the UK population.
